Youth Leadership Symposium
What is the Youth Leadership Symposium?
This event is designed to help youth develop leadership skills and better understand the local congregational setting that serves as their Church home. To complete this program, youth will be required to do some reading and other preparation, interview three leaders in their congregation, and finally organize and lead an event in their local Church. Youth will learn the importance of building relationships, adapting to change, and working across generations. Along the way, youth will build relationships with peers and meet adults who can serve as mentors as they continue developing their leadership skills.
Youth who have served on leadership teams through their Region or Conference have traditionally been eligible for scholarships at church related colleges and universities. This program is designed to meet the requirements of such scholarships but students should check with the college or university of their choice to confirm that this will qualify for any scholarships that they are applying for. Chapman University and Texas Christian University will recognize all participants who complete Youth Leadership Symposium, including their final project, as "youth leaders" and make them eligible for appropriate scholarships. This includes Chapman's 50% tuition reduction scholarships.
