“These are lifelong skills that I can take with me and use to share my faith.” - Braelynn
Overview: Braelynn organized a “Date Night” for parents that provided free child care at church. The activities included potting flowers which later got delivered to senior adults. The staff for the “Date Night” were high school age youth, allowing younger children to build relationships with multiple age groups in the church through this project. Braelynn kept the focus on kindness and serving others and an expression of faith.

In Reflection: Over the course of these 3 hours, we learned a lot. But the main focus of this night was to spread our love of Christ. I think we did very well with this goal. It was hard for some of the kids to part with their flowers, especially since they put a lot of time and effort into it. But I know they learned how important it is to do things for other people.

More Details: This was an old program in the life of Braelynn’s congregation that was revived. She had to overcome scheduling conflicts and the challenge of getting families to commit in advance. While planting, Braelynn noticed how much the children ended up helping each other, truly leaning into the lessons of kindness and helping others. Each child went home with a craft that put their photo on a construction paper flower, providing them a reminder of what they learned and the flower pot they gifted to someone else.
