“I have learned several important characteristics of being a leader such as delegation and empathy.”
- Rowan
Overview: Rowan organized a fundraiser for a scholarship fund that supports camp attendance at Disciples Crossing in Athens, TX. The Pointer Scholarship had supported Rowan’s own camp experience and he wanted to give back and make sure that scholarship would be available for future campers. Rowan planned a cookout with guest speakers who had attended camp and provided an online giving option as well.

In Reflection: “I learned how to ask for help. I certainly couldn’t have completed this project without the help of my family and my pastor. At the beginning of this project, I developed a feeling that I had to do everything myself, so that it would be how I wanted it. However, one of the best things I learned through this program is how to effectively delegate “ - Rowan

More Details: Rowan had to navigate date changes, empty propane tanks and other obstacles. Guest speakers spanned generations of campers and provided a variety of stories about the importance of Church Camp. Rowan made a commitment to including multiple generations, recognizing that each bring a unique perspective. While Rowan would have liked greater attendance, the increase to the scholarship fund was significant.
