“My church has given me so many opportunities to lead. From VBS to Camp to Regional youth events, and all these experiences have given me wisdom”
- Sawyer
Overview: Sawyer organized a fundraiser for the Community Lifeline Center in his hometown of McKinney, TX. Free pancakes were served to draw a crowd that was then invited to make donations to support the work of the center which supplies basic needs for local residence in need.

In Reflection: Youth Leadership Symposium taught me to handle multiple responsibilities at the same time - grace under pressure. As I continue to grow as a leader I want to get better at organizing and keeping my thoughts collected. This experience showed me the goodness of our community and also how much work goes into organizing a church event.

More Details: Sawyer was joined by a crew of youth and adults from the Church who worked together to cook and host, serving over 80 people and raising over $3,000 for the Community Lifeline Center. They overcame issues with a broken over, moving to pan-frying bacon in shifts. Sawyer noted the joy of the community working together, naming that community building within the First Christian Church family was an added benefit of the event.
